MSO Fastway eyes DTH subscribers through free IPTV STB scheme - nairrk - 01-31-2020

MUMBAI: Punjab-based multi-system operator (MSO) Fastway Transmission is looking to wean away direct to home (DTH) subscribers by offering them free Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) set-top box (STB).

The company provides IPTV service through its broadband arm Netplus Broadband. The company offers Premium HD Pack and Platinum HD Pack priced at Rs 1099 and Rs 1199 respectively. The package includes high-speed broadband with speed up to 100 Mbps, TV+VoD content, and voice telephony.

Fastway has partnered with Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer ZTE to bring next-generation IPTV services to India. It had launched the Next Gen IPTV service in December. The service will be available to the customers via the new IPTV STB.

Fastway recently has introduced Triple Play plans which bring three services together namely High-Speed Broadband, IPTV and Smart Telephony. The Next Gen IPTV is India’s first such service and the company is providing up to 400 Live TV channels, Local content & Content from various OTT platforms.

Recently, Fastway had partnered with Hungama Digital Media to offer the premium content of Hungama as a value-added service to its IPTV customers.

Fastway Transmissions Group CEO Prem Ojha said, “Fastway Transmissions is poised to expand its next-gen services across the nation and is the first MSO to launch such services. We want to take this service to every home and as a part of the inaugural offer we are offering Free IPTV STB to the DTH subscribers as an exchange offer, so as to they can enjoy high-quality video service experience.”

He further said that these services will take the video viewing to the next level with features like time-shift TV, catchup TV, and VoD. Fastway Next Gen IPTV STB comes with features like: Multiple Screens, Live TV, Time Shift TV, Catch Up TV, Video-on-Demand, Radio, and Apps & Home Media.

The service allows users to watch their favourite TV programme on mobile, Tab and PC. The users will get quick access to many channels and they can even make use of the Catch-Up & Timeshift service that allows users to watch missed programmes of the last seven days.

The Next Gen IPTV service has a dedicated Video-on-Demand (VoD) service with over 1000 movies available for viewing already. Being an Android TV-based Box, it is preinstalled with some of the popular OTT apps available in the market right now.

Fastway, which was set up as a joint venture (JV) between Gurdeep Singh and Digicable Network India in 2007, is the dominant MSO in Punjab and has a presence in many Northern states like Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. It has over 10,000 local cable operators (LCO) partners and has installed over 38 lakh STBs in Punjab and other states.

In FY18, Fastway’s net profit for the fiscal ended 31 March 2018 had fallen 33% to Rs 50.47 crore as against Rs 75.48 crore in the previous fiscal. The company’s revenue in FY18 had increased by 1.16% to Rs 563.16 crore compared to Rs 556.8 crore in the year-ago period.
